When to Water

Driving through some of the local subdivisions yesterday, we were saddened to see lawns being watered with sprinkler systems in the middle of the day (in particular, we're looking at you house for sale by Amelia Bullock in Belterra that was also watering the street at 2:00 in the afternoon). This is such an irresponsible waste of water. Not only is it environmentally foolish, you're also not doing your lawn any favors by watering in the heat of the day when much of the water is lost to evaporation and when the winds are usually kicked up and the water just blows away. The best time to water is early in the morning, just around the time the sun rises. If you have a sprinkler system there really is just no excuse. Even if you can't get yourself out of bed to water, you can set you system to go off early-morning (around 5 or 6am).

Did you ever see Waterworld with Kevin Costner? The one where he has to drink his own urine because we've run out of water? Just saying.
